IPv6 – Be Ready For The New Internet
BlueCat Networks
On February 3, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) completed its final allocation of IPv4 addresses to each of the five Regional Internet Registries.
While IPv4 isn’t going to disappear overnight, organizations will need to support both IPv4 and IPv6 this year to avoid losing connectivity with the rest of the world.
When IPv4 was first implemented over 20 years ago, no one could have predicted the phenomenal growth of the Internet and IP-enabled devices – or that we would quickly outgrow four billion IPv4 addresses.
The move to IPv6 is necessary to support the Internet’s continued growth
Despite the earlier-than-expected exhaustion of available IPv4 addresses, many organizations still do not have a plan in place for transitioning to IPv6. There are many reasons to adopt IPv6 sooner than later. If organizations wait, they may incur extra cost and risk due to an aging infrastructure, not be able to integrate new IPv6 applications and have limited connectivity on the new Internet.
BlueCat Networks is the leading global provider of IP Address Management (IPAM), DNS and DHCP Core Services. The 2 focused product lines are – i) Proteus (IPAM); and ii) Adonis (DNS/DHCP) – both available in either appliance or VM. BlueCat solves critical network management issues by centrally managing, controlling and auditing IPv4, IPv6, DNS and DNSSEC networks.
BlueCat Networks offers companies:
• Full IP Network Visibility, and Centralization
• No more manual spreadsheets
• IP Network Monitoring, Reporting, and Auditing
• 100% Network Uptime (redundancy, redundancy, redundancy)
• Future Ready – DNSSEC and IPv6 compatible (can manage IPv4 and IPv6 “dual-stacked” network at the same time)
Quote from Gartner (Nov 2009) – “Proteus is a strong IPAM solution”
Unfortunately, IPv6 is not backwards compatible with IPv4, which will create significant implementation and management challenges. BlueCat Networks is committed to help organizations smoothly and seamlessly transition to IPv6. Bluecat Network’s IP Address Management (IPAM) solution plays a key role in planning and adopting IPv6. It also simplifies the ongoing management of IPv6 and dual-stack environments.
On June 8, 2011, BlueCat Networks joins a growing number of industry leaders including Akamai, Cisco, Google, Facebook and Yahoo in participating in the worldwide IPv6 field trial – “World IPv6 Day” organized by The Internet Society (www.isoc.org). This global field test will validate the readiness of IPv6 as the foundation for the new Internet. We urge you to get involved in World IPv6 Day and to start planning now for the inevitable transition to IPv6. For more details on World IPv6 day, visit http://isoc.org/wp/worldipv6day/
Organizations can no longer afford to ignore IPv6. The new Internet is here. Are you ready?
We are very excited to carry this product on board as Malaysia ISPs and Government are taking active initiative in leading the provision of IPv6, they find Bluecat Networks helpful in building the necessary framework. If you are intending to look into this, we would be happy to hear from you!
